Sunday night all four area football teams found out where they would be playing as the IHSAA announced the pairings for the 49th annual state tournament. With Sectional play beginning Oct. 22 here’s how the draw turned out.
Mustangs get rematch vs Trojans
In Class A Sectional 45, the Fountain Central Mustangs will hit the road to take the high powered offense of WRC foe Covington. The Mustangs back on Sept. 10 fell 48-12 against the Trojans. The Mustangs will conclude the regular season on Friday as they travel to take on Parke Heritage Wolves.
The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of Riverton Parke and Cloverdale.
On the opposite side of the bracket the Wolves will match up against Attica, and North Vermillion takes on South Putnam.
Chargers and Athenians in for sectional tests
In the always loaded Class 3A Sectional 28 both North Montgomery and Crawfordsville will be challenged in the opening round.
The Athenians will get a re-match with Sagamore Conference foe Western Boone. The Stars and Athenians met back on Sept. 3 with Western Boone coming away with a 49-6 victory. Crawfordsville will be looking for its first win of the season on Friday as they host Frankfort.
The winner will face either Hamilton Heights or Guerin Catholic.
North Montgomery is set to host the Yorktown Tigers. The Chargers conclude the regular season on Friday as they take on Danville as they look to finish the season with a winning record.
The winner between the Tigers and Chargers will ether face the No. 1 or No. 2 team in 3A as No. 1 West Lafayette and No. 2 Brebeuf will square off in round one.
Mounties hit the road to duel Cadets
In the Class 2A Sectional 37, Southmont will travel to take on the Cascade Cadets. The Mounties are undefeated against sectional opponents on the season, defeating both North Putnam and Seeger. The Mounties end the regular season on Friday, looking to snap a three-game losing streak against Tri-West.
The winner will match up against the winner of South Vermillion or Lafayette Central Catholic.
Monrovia and North Putnam meet on the opposite side of the bracket, as do Speedway and Seeger.
