Football Sectional Draw

Area football teams find out sectional path

Posted

In two weeks the road to Lucas Oil Stadium begins with sectional play beginning on Oct. 21 . Sunday evening the sectional brackets were revealed on the annual pairings show hosted by the IHSAA. The brackets look different than in years past due to the realignments this year so let’s see how the draw panned out for our four area teams.

Class A Sectional 42

Fountain Central will compete in the Class A Sectional 42. The eight team sectional features Clinton Central, North Vermillion, Park Tudor, Clinton Prairie, Attica, Traders Point and Covington along with FC.

The Mustangs will get a re-match with WRC foe Attica FC as like they did back on Sep. 16 FC will travel to the Red Ramblers for their sectional opener. In that Sep. 16 matchup it was all Mustangs with FC coming away with a dominating 49-6 win. Heading into the final week of the season, The Mustangs hold a record of 2-6 while Attica is 0-8. FC concludes the regular season on Friday when they host Parke Heritage. Attica will host South Vermillion.

Joining FC and Attica in the bottom half of the bracket are Clinton Prairie and Park Tudor. The Panthers will make the trip to battle former Crawfordsville coach Kurt Schlicher who has the Gophers at 5-3 in his first season.

The top half of the bracket sees 0-8 Clinton Central travel to 4-4 Traders Point and 5-3 North Vermillion traveling to take on 5-3 Covington.

Class 2A Sectional 37

The Southmont Mounties are in an all-new Class 2A Sectional 37 for 2022. The seven other teams joining South for a sectional title include South Vermillion, Sullivan, Cascade, North Putnam, North Knox, Greencastle, and Linton-Stockton.

The 6-2 Mounties will host North Knox in two weeks. The Warriors currently sit at 3-5 on the season and conclude the regular season by hosting Paoli. South makes the trip to battle Sagamore Conference powerhouse Tri-West who with a win will clinch a share of the SAC title.

Joining the Mounties and Warriors in the top half of the bracket are two very good teams in 6-2 South Vermillion as they host the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A in the Linton-Stockton Miners. The Miners prolific offense is scoring a staggering 51 points per game while their defense is surrendering just 15 a contest.

If the Mounties were to defeat the Warriors, they would also get to host the semi-final game against the winner of the Wildcats and Miners.

The bottom of the bracket features 4-4 Sullivan traveling to 3-5 North Putnam while 4-4 Greencastle will travel to 4-4 Cascade.

Class 3A Sectional 29

Both Crawfordsville and North Montgomery are in a new-look Class 3A Sectional 29 this season. The six other teams joining the Athenians and Chargers are Monrovia, Speedway, Tri-West, Western Boone, Purdue Polytechnic, and Danville.

The Athenians and Chargers are on opposite sides of the bracket as CHS (2-6) will have a battle on their hands in SAC re-match against when they host Western Boone (7-1). Back in week three the two SAC foes squared off with the Stars winning 49-0. Western Boone with a win over Lebanon this week can clinch a share of the SAC title as the Stars are currently ranked No. 6 in 3A.

The other two teams in the top half of the bracket are also familiar opponents to both the Stars and Athenians. 6-2 Tri-West and 3-5 Danville meet up in what is always a good Hendricks County rivalry. The Bruins edged out the Warriors 24-21 back on Sep. 16.

North Montgomery is currently 4-4 on the season and will host 5-3 Speedway. The Chargers are coming off a dominating performance in a 54-6 win over Frankfort and will conclude the regular season with a trip to Danville on Friday. The Sparkplugs are averaging 33 points per game.

The winner between the Chargers and Sparkplugs will also host the winner between 2-6 Monrovia and 3-4 Purdue Polytechnic.

All three Montgomery County teams are at home to open up sectional play. It will be an exciting time as all of them will be vying for a sectional title beginning in two weeks.
