Area girls hoops teams find out post-season path

The final week of the girls basketball season is here and on Sunday our four area teams watched their names get revealed as the IHSAA held their annual tournament pairings show.

Let’s take a look at how the brackets ended up and the path that each team will have to take to win a sectional title.

Class 2A Sectional 38

Fountain Central is one of five teams in this sectional which will take place at Clinton Prairie. The Mustangs will take on the host Gophers on Friday night in the first semi-final match. Rossville and Sheridan matchup in the opening match of the sectional on Wednesday and the winner will play Seeger in the second semi-final also on Friday night.

Currently Clinton Prairie (14-7), Sheridan (12-4), and Seeger (16-4) all have winning records while the Mustangs are currently (6-13) and Rossville (1-18).

Fountain Central is currently 0-2 against sectional opponents with losses coming to the Gophers and the Patriots earlier this season.

Class 2A Sectional 44

Southmont hosts the Class 2A Sectional 44 tournament and is one of six teams vying for a sectional crown. The Mounties drew one of the two byes and will wait until Friday night to play thier opening game. They will play the winner of South Putnam and Parke Heritage.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Riverton Parke drew the other bye and will play the winner of North Putnam and Cloverdale.

Currently the Mounties are 7-10  on the season while Parke Heritage holds the top record in the sectional at 16-5. South Putnam holds a 10-10 record while North Putnam is 13-8. The Clovers are 8-14 and the Panthers round out the field with a current record of 5-15.

Southmont is 3-1 against the sectional field this season. Wins have come against South Putnam (60-56), North Putnam (62-60), and Riverton Parke (52-40). The Mounties lone loss came on the road against the Wolves, a 52-37 loss.

The Mounties are looking for their first sectional title since 2014.

Class 3A Sectional 25

Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will make the trip to Danville for the Class 3A Sectional 25.  The two county rivals will square off right away in the first game on Wednesday night.

Earlier this season the Chargers won over Crawfordsville 42-39 on a game-winning three by senior Madi Welch.

The winner between the Athenians and Chargers will get the winner of host Danville and Monrovia. Over on the top half of the bracket Greencastle and Frankfort square off in game one and the winner will face Tri-West who received the lone bye.

Danville (16-6) and Tri-West (14-7) are the two favorites to reach the sectional title game with their current records. The Athenians are currently 6-14 while the Chargers are 11-8. Greencastle posts an overall mark of 4-16, Frankfort 3-17, and Monrovia 7-14.

Sectional play gets underway on Feb. 1  with sectional championships on Feb. 5.

The Athenians and Chargers get things started with their game on Feb. 3 while the Mounties and Mustangs play on Feb. 5.

The winner between Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will play again on Feb. 4.
