As the girls basketball season is officially wrapped up in the Sagamore Conference, it was time for the SAC coaches to get together and vote on the yearly all-conference teams for the 2021-22 season.
All three Montgomery county teams had representatives on both the first and second teams.
Crawfordsville’s Shea Williamson was named to the All-SAC first team along with North Montgomery’s Madi Welch, and Southmont’s Belle Miller.
Williamson led the Athenians in every statistical category and ended her senior season with 12 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.6 asts, 2.7 stls, and 1.5 blocks while shooting 45 percent from the field.
Welch was one of the keys for the Chargers successful 12-10 season as she scored eight points a contest while usually guarding the opposing teams best player.
Miller provided the Mounties with a strong post presence by scoring nearly 13 a contest and grabbing 8.6 rebounds. She also broke the Mounties record for free-throw percentage in a single season by shooting 82.7 percent from the line.
On the 2nd team a total of six area players made the cut.
North Montgomery’s two post players in senior Katie Rice and freshman Piper Ramey both made the team. Rice who led the Chargers in scoring and rebounding was the constant rock for the Chargers offense all season. Ramey around the half-way mark really started to find her stride and ended with nearly seven points and eight rebounds.
Both Olivia Reed and Taylor Abston for CHS. Reed who stepped up her scoring this year for the Athenians in her senior year scored 8.6 points while Abston in her sophomore campaign continued to show her development with seven points and 6.6 rebounds.
Two Mounties rounded out the second-team as senior Dori Frederick and sophomore DeLorean Mason were honored. Frederick was the second leading scorer for the Mounties at 8.2 ppg and was second on the team behind Miller at the line, knocking down 81 percent of her free-throws. Mason scored 6.2 points and was the team’s second leading rebounder at four a game while also recording 3.1 steals.
