Area gymnasts working into early season groove

NEW MARKET — All three Montgomery County gymnastics teams competed in a three-way meet at Southmont on Monday night.

Crawfordsville freshman Abbie Lain stole the show in helping lead the Athenians to a win with 84.8 points. Southmont was second with 70.275, and North Montgomery third at 64.775.

Lain won the vault with a mark of 8.2, the bars with an 8.775, the floor with a 9.025, and the beam with an 8.75. The four wins gave her the all-around win with a total score of 34.75. Crawfordsville’s Halle Elliot was third in the all-around with a score of 24.95. The freshman scored a 6.0 on the beam, a 6.7 on the floor, 4.25 on the bars, and 8.0 on the vault. Parker Hartman also scored an 8.0 on the vault, while Olivia Fichter had a mark of 4.675 on the bars, and finished fifth in the all-around with a 23.35. Sidney Robbins was fourth in the all-around with a score of 23.85.

Ella Watson led Southmont with a second-place finish in the all-around with a score of 25.5. Watson was second on the beam with a mark of 6.25, third in the floor with a 6.875, fourth on the bars with a 4.375, and second on the vault with an 8.0.

Chaney Scott was third on the beam with a 6.05, while Emma Powers was fourth with a 6.0. Scott was also second in the floor with a mark of 6.95, and sixth in the all-around with a score of 23.2.

Maggie Yeager led North Montgomery with a third-place finish on the bars with a score of 4.425, and was sixth on the vault with a mark of 7.3. Caitlyn Burns was third on the vault with a 7.9
