A rural Crawfordsville man is dead and his passenger has been hospitalized following an off-road vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning.
Thomas Kelsey, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene and Talia Runyon, 23, also of rural Crawfordsville, was flown by medical helicopter to Indianapolis for treatment. The extent of her injuries are unknown.
A statement released from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Kelsey and Runyon were southbound on County Road 550W at about 2 a.m. Sunday when the pair struck a deer and lost control of the vehicle.
“The vehicle left the roadway, struck some rocks and an embankment and then came to a rest against a tree,” the MCSO press release reads.
Lifeline and officials from the Indiana State Police, Crawfordsville Police, Crawfordsville Fire, New Market Volunteer Fire and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
