Athenians, Chargers compete at rain-shortened Athenian Invite

The Crawfordsville and North Montgomery girls’ tennis teams competed amongst a talented field at the Athenian Invite on Saturday.

The event, which was an individual tournament, was shortened due to rain.

Crawfordsville’s No. 1 singles player Lauren Hale went 1-2 on the day with losses to Delta and Westfield and a win over North Montgomery’s Kaitlin Greenlee. At No. 2 singles, Hannah McLean went 2-1 with a loss to Westfield, before beating North Montgomery’s Sydnee Turner and Terre Haute North.

At No. 3 singles, Sam Rohr went 2-1 with a loss to Delta and wins over Terre Haute North and McCutcheon.

At doubles, the No. 1 doubles team of Ella Hudson and Cathleen McGrady went 0-2 with losses to Delta and Bloomington North. The No. 2 doubles duo of Lilly Klingbeil and Elyse Widmer went 0-2 with losses to Bloomington North and Westfield.

Crawfordsville’s exhibition doubles team of Olivia Fichter and Ali Brown went 2-0 with wins over McCutcheon and North Montgomery.

For North Montgomery, Greenlee went 1-2 with losses to Westfield and Hale, and a win over McCutcheon. At No. 2 singles, Turner lost to Delta and Crawfordsville, before beating Delta’s exhibition. Neideffer went 0-2 at No. 3 singles with losses to McCutcheon and Bloomington North. 

At doubles, Joy Davis and Allison Guard lost to Bloomington North and won an exhibition match at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Courtney Engels and Paige Hudson lost to Terre Haute North and Westfield, while winning an exhibition match at No. 2 doubles.
