For the third consecutive year, Crawfordsville Athletics has claimed the 2025 Montgomery County Chase trophy. The Athenians accumulated the most points in head-to-head athletic events between all three county schools.

Crawfordsville totaled 50 points, North Montgomery 39 and Southmont 33 in the points standings.

The Athenians came out of the gate strong and set the pace in the fall, leading then second-place Southmont 24-14. North Montgomery was third with 10 points.

In the fall, Crawfordsville swept boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, boys tennis and volleyball.

The race in winter sports ended up being closer. Crawfordsville scored 14 points while Southmont and North Montgomery tied with 12 points apiece.

Sweeps in boys wrestling and boys and girls swimming helped ensure the Athenians remained on top of the all-sports standings.

In the spring, the Athenians swept girls tennis and girls track, giving Crawfordsville 10 county championship teams.

The Chargers had their best scoring effort in the spring when they scored 17 points. Crawfordsville maintained their lead with 12 points and the Mounties earned seven points.

During the school year, North Montgomery scored county championships in football, gymnastics, girls wrestling, baseball, boys track and boys golf.

Southmont’s county championships were in softball, girls golf, boys basketball and girls basketball.

County schools get two points for each win over a county rival.

Since the Journal Review began the Chase in the 2015-16 school year, Southmont has won four years and Crawfordsville has won three times. North Montgomery won the Chase the first three years for their total of three.
