Basil Blaine Poynter, 78, of Waveland left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his family.
Blaine was born June 18, 1946, it Eubank, Kentucky, to Arley Edward and Hettie Ray Poynter.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda Sue Wiles. They were married Aug. 8, 1964, at Eubank, Kentucky. His children surviving are: Brian (Kim) Poynter, Nathan (Judy) Poynter and Alaina (Todd) Yockey. He has one surviving sister, Wavil Elaine (Starlin) Smiley. He has six grandchildren: Andrew John Poynter, Gia Frances Poynter, Joshua Blaine Poynter, Brian Alexander Poynter, Hannah Paige Lawrence and Taylor Grace Barnard. He has one great-grandchild, Hadassah Joy Poynter.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Alden Poynter, Wanda Savannah Isaacs, John Alvis Poynter, Edwina Jane Adams and Leland Wayne Poynter.
Blaine worked at RR Donnelly for 44 years and retired in 2008. Blaine and Brenda Poynter recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together with many friends and family. He was an active member of the New Life Baptist Church in Browns Valley for over 37 years, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He coached Southmont high school boys tennis team for three years and led them to a sectional championship in 1991. Blaine was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, and cherished the moments with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed raising Angus cattle and working on the farm.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Galen Fitzsimmons officiating. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Interment will be in Good Hope Cemetery near Eubank, Kentucky at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to New Life Baptist Church in Browns Valley.
