Betty Jean Williams, 72, of rural Veedersburg passed away at 12:26 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Bickford Senior Living in Crawfordsville.

Betty was born Sept. 26, 1949, at Frankfort, the daughter of the late Ithel Belmont “Mike” and Mildred Louise (Wilkins) Davis. She married Lee Harold Williams on Aug. 3, 1975, at Pleasant Hill Church, Thorntown. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2022.

She is also preceded in death by brother Jerry Davis.

Surviving family include: three daughters, Nancy Jean (Devin) Bell, Colfax, Lee Ann (Josh) Thompson, Crawfordsville, and Laura Sue (Andrew) Bush, Veedersburg; six grandchildren, Jayden Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Dawson Bell, Bryce Bush, Ainsley Bell and Avery Bush; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Davis, Covington, and Beverly (Jack) Kauffman, Lafayette; and sister-in-law Louise Davis, Thorntown. 

Betty graduated from Clinton Prairie High School in 1967, and graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She was employed as a kindergarten teacher at Covington Elementary School 1971-1978, and then became a full-time farm wife and mom.

She enjoyed helping Lee on the farm, and especially enjoyed working with the dairy cows, raising the baby calves, and running the combine shelling corn. She continued with her love for working with kids as a 4-H Leader for 29 years with the Millcreek Go-Getters, along with substitute teaching for many years. She also enjoyed hosting many school kids and giving them a tour of the dairy farm. Along with Lee, she was a member of the South Fountain Pioneers and enjoyed running the ice cream machine at the county fair. She had also served as a board member for Bonebrake Cemetery.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Sterling Christian Church, 701 S. Sterling Ave., Veedersburg, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at the church and continue until the time of service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg.

Memorial contributions may be given to Fountain County 4-H.
