Bids open for street department equipment

The Crawfordsville Street Department is adding a new pickup truck and leaf vacuum to its fleet of equipment.

Bids were opened Wednesday by the Board of Public Works and Safety for a 2021 four-wheel drive crew cab truck and a heavy-duty self-contained vacuum leaf collecting machine.

The department received two bids totaling $66,515 from Etter Ford and York Chrysler for the truck. 

One bid was received for the leaf machine from Evansville-based Brown Equipment Co. totaling $69,900.

The board voted to take the bids under advisement.

In other business, the board approved requests from: 

• Fawn Johnson, parks and recreation director, to close streets for Saturday’s annual Easter egg hunt at the Gen. Lew Wallace Study & Museum. Pike Street from Vernon Court to Wallace Avenue and Wallace Avenue from Wabash Avenue to Elston Avenue will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the event.

• Homeowner Tom Manlove for a sidewalk loan application for repairs at 511 S. Elm St. Manlove is applying for a $6,000 no-interest loan with a two-year term. The city’s Sidewalk Maintenance & Improvement Fund provides money for homeowners to have their sidewalks repaired by private companies.

• Cindy Biddle of Relay for Life to close Pike Street at Pike Place for the Relay Kickoff on June 5.

• Barry Lewis, code enforcement officer, for the street department to remove trash from the property at 213 Poplar St. owned by Don Rose.
