The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday opened bids for road work partly funded by the state’s Community Crossings program.

Proposals totaling nearly $2.8 million were received from six Indiana companies for the upcoming projects, which require matching funds from the city.

Crews will be working on Main Street from Water to Walnut streets, Walnut from Wabash Avenue to Market Street, Purple Heart Parkway from U.S. 231 to the city limits and Plum Street from Hughes Street to Vandalia Court.

The projects also include work on Vandalia, Cherry, High, Garden, Allen, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Risner streets and Woodlawn Place.

In other business, the board approved a $30,505 grant agreement between the Crawfordsville Police Department and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for body camera upgrades.

The city is considering switching vendors for the cameras, which were purchased from Digital Ally.

If a new vendor is selected, the department plans to amend the grant so the funds can be used with the new company, police chief Aaron Mattingly said.

The board also approved:

• A $25,000 agreement with Price Excavating for trail access improvements at Rock River Ridge.

• The locations for the annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 18 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19. Members will be stationed at intersections on Darlington Avenue, near Town and Country Homecenter and Pizza Hut and on Purple Heart Parkway.

• A request from Crawfordsville Parks & Recreation director Fawn Johnson to close Pike Street at Pike Place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Farmers Market dates May 1-Oct. 30.

• A request from Lora Craft-Whiles to block the first three parking spaces on the west side of Green Street, just north of Main Street, from Friday-Sunday for equipment to remove water from the Gamble Richardson offices.

• Requests for the street department to remove trash from properties at 511 Tinsley Ave. opened by Ratcliff Inc. and 905 1/2 Wayne Court owned by Roy Hurt, and to remove a freezer from a property at 411 S. Water St. owned by Creston and Kayla Larsh.
