Bill Gust Platipodis, 70, of Crawfordville passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at home, while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 17, 1950, at Chicago, to the late Gust Platipodis and Carol (Karamesines) Byas.

Bill graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1969 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He began his career working with his family at Greek’s Pizzeria, and then ran his own construction business, co-owned and operated Magic Light Neon along with his wife, Kathy and later worked in sales for Young & Company Rock Art and Design. He was a life-long Chicago Bears fan and loved watching his uncle, Chris Karamesines, “The Golden Greek,” race Top Fuel dragsters. He showed his creativity and love for people in finding, making and restoring beautiful and unique gifts for them. Bill’s generous heart, fun-loving spirit and larger-than-life smile and laughter will truly be missed.

On Feb. 10, 1989, he married the love of his life, Kathy Vice, who survives.

He is also survived by daughter Jill; sons, Christopher (Heather), Jason and Jeffrey (Katie) and daughter Jessica (Josh) Ruge; step-children, Reid (Rebecca) Snellenbarger, Tona (Brian) Gardner and Katie (Derek) DeKerlegand; 20 grandchildren; brothers, Russell (Kelly) Byas and Jimmy (Eva) Byas; sister Diane (John) Yavor; sister-in-law Janet (Steve) Hallett; nieces, Amy Yavor, Jenny Jones, Jamie (Phillip) Porter and Jill (Greg) Dervenis; nephews, Gavin (Jennee) Hallett, Matt Karamesines and Alex Karamesines; and uncle Mike (Kim) Karamesines. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Robbie (Clara) Platipodis.

Bill will be inurned at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso with a private family service.

Memorial donations in his honor can be made to the Salvation Army or the ASPCA.
