On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, Billy Lee Cope, 79, returned home and joined his parents, Lee W. and Wilma A. (Wagner) Cope, wife Sandra (Ingram) Cope, daughter Tracy (Cope) Crowe and grandson Tyler Crowe.

Bill graduated from Alamo High School and was a resident of Crawfordsville for most of his life. He worked at Mid States Steel and Wire from age 18 until they closed their doors.

He supported multiple fraternal organizations in Crawfordsville and enjoyed spending time with fellow members. Bill was a 29-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1005; a 16-year member of the Sons of The American Legion Post 72; and a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #1431. He held several offices, including treasurer, junior governor, six-term governor, administrator and past-governor during his 27-year membership with the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #6, receiving his Fellowship Degree of Honor in 2012.

He is survived by sister Gladys (Cope) Berry; daughter Pamela (Cope) Mahler, son Michael Lee Cope; grandchildren Andrea (Dunkelberg) Christopher and Michael Cope II; numerous great-grandchildren, including Troy Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.

His family is requesting that his friends and fellow organization members make donations in his memory to their local American Legion, Eagles, Moose Lodge or VFW and join us at a celebration of his life ceremony to be scheduled in the spring.
