Blue Star Mothers plans annual supper

Posted

Blue Star Hoosier Mothers will have its Spring Bean Supper 5-8 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 72, 101 Walter Remley Drive in Crawfordsville. The dinner is open to the public and takeout will be available. Hot dogs and bake sale items also will be available. Cost of each dinner is $8.

The history of the bean supper fundraiser goes back several years. For some time, the West-Central Indiana Vietnam Veterans Association held the bean suppers at the American Legion. When the veterans started donating funds to Blue Star Mothers, the mothers rolled up their sleeves and came to help. When the veterans association closed, they asked the Blue Star Mothers to continue with the fundraiser.

Blue Star Mothers are mothers who have sons and daughters serving in the military, or whose service members are now veterans. Blue Star Mothers provides moral and emotional support for our men and women in the military, and their families. Money raised from this dinner will be used to send “Freedom Boxes” containing various items from home to troops stateside and abroad. These boxes are sent twice a year, with postage being a major expense.

If anyone is interested in donating items for the boxes, Blue Star Mothers can provide a list of preferred items and will have them available at the supper. Feel free to provide the current address of any military member so organizers can include them in the next shipment.

To donate to their projects, you can donate more than the $8 cost for the meal. You can also send a check to Blue Star Hoosier Mothers, P.O. Box 801, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
