Board gives OK for boiler, lighting projects

Two projects aimed at making improvements at Crawfordsville High School received board approval Tuesday.

The board voted 4-0 to accept a bid from Quality Plumbing and Heating of Kokomo to replace the boilers that serve the academic wing and the pool at the high school. The contracted amount is $883,000. The corporation will use federal pandemic relief money from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund to support the project.

The school board also voted 4-0 to accept a bid in the amount of $218,700 to replace the theater lighting and controls in the auditorium. The work will be contracted with Vaught Electric.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the retirements of Carol Starlin, Hose Elementary School principal; Sarah Hutchison, K/1 looping teacher at Hose; and Becky Barclay, teacher’s aide at Hose.

• Approved the resignations of Thomas Logan, social studies teacher at Crawfordsville Middle School; Trudy Cunningham, media assistant at Nicholson Elementary; Tamara Staton, teacher’s aide at Hose Elementary; Militza Morales, Spanish teacher at Crawfordsville High School; and Tony Thomas, corporation courier.

• Approved the hiring of Katie Rosentreter, fourth grade teacher at Hoover Elementary; Robin McKinney, intervention teacher at Hoover Elementary; Kristopher Sims, boys PE/health at CHS; Caleb Fenimore, biology/environmental science teacher at CHS; Ryan Hall, special education teacher at CHS; Trevor Mickle, social studies teacher at CMS; Cory Thompson, art teacher at CHS; Tara Wear, teacher’s aide at Hose Elementary; Kenneth Wilson, corporation courier; and Seth Nunan, ELA teacher at CMS.

• Learned of the position change for Angie Brown from third grade teacher to transition/special education teacher at Nicholson; and for Stephanie Wilkinson from receptionist to administrative assistant at Nicholson.

• Appointed Marilyn Smith and Isaiah Foster to the Crawfordsville District Public Library Board.

• Approved a school resource officer agreement with the city of Crawfordsville.

• Learned construction work has resumed at the high school in the lockerooms; preparation has started at Hose Elementary for an HVAC project; and the preliminary design work has started for a new administration building.
