Members of the Board of Public Works and Safety are giving the property owner at 117 E. Market St. more time to address the unsafe building order that was issued by the city.
On Wednesday, the board approved a request to continue the matter.
The owner of the building, John Oliver, received another unsafe building order last month, after already receiving one earlier this year, and given a $3,000 fine due to the ongoing issues at the property. The property was inspected by Crawfordsville Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis along with James Rodewald, an engineering director at Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power. Both inspectors found the building to be a public safety hazard due to loose electrical wires being exposed and a faulty fire alarm system.
Oliver was given until Nov. 27 to take action in order to avoid paying the fine and not receive further reprimanding. He has been working with the Crawfordsville Historic Preservation Commission because the property is part of the city’s historic district. His continuation was moved to Jan. 8, 2025.
