Board moves nuisance complaint to litigation

Posted

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety addressed concerns made by City Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis regarding a West Market Street property that has been deemed a public nuisance.

The property at 605 W. Market St. is owned by Mandeep Baidwan. He has received several orders related to a lack of overall upkeep and large coolers sitting on the property.

Baidwin previously sought to have the property developed into a commercial site, but several neighbors expressed they’d like it to remain residential and his requests were denied.

The property was a commercial site in the past due to grandfathered zoning regulations, but the zoning has been reverted to residential.

Lewis said Baidwan has failed to respond to any of the past requests and citations to clean up the property. Baidwan is being fined $100 a day as long as the property is still unkept.

The board agreed to move forward with litigation, which will allow Lewis and the city to request a judge’s order to remove items like the coolers sitting outside of the building.
