There were several requests made during this week’s Board of Public Works and Public Safety meeting, including one related to the renovations currently under way at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
A request to close part of the sidewalk near the courthouse gained approval Wednesday.
The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety agreed to close the area at the the corner of Main and South Washington streets to allow for the cleaning of the monument. The work is part of the overall renovations happening at the local landmark. The sidewalks will be closed beginning Monday and remain closed until May 5 to protect the public and property from chemical sprays that are used for the restoration work. Two parking spaces will be reserved during the cleanings.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a request made by Scott Voliva from the Montgomery County Boys & Girls Club for a 5k on May 10. The route will start at the club on Whitlock Avenue, continue through the Pleasant Meadows subdivision, and end at the club. The event also includes a kids’ fun race at the club.
• Approved a request by Sherry Morton to place a dumpster at
604 Kentucky St. for one week, beginning March 12.
• Approved a request by Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power to add a new decorative light in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse.
• Learned the city is accepting public comments on its website for two weeks on a draft of an ADA Transition Plan. The plan reviews accessibility issues in public buildings, sidewalks and curbs and outlines a plan to fix them over time. The ADA Transition Plan is a study necessary to help qualify for federal funding.
