Board OKs paving, fire truck bids

David Price Excavating was awarded the contract for the city’s Community Crossing Paving Program.

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety awarded the bid of $366,879 to the local company.

Street Commissioner Scott Hesler expects the paving project will be completed by the end of the year.

The board also approved a bid of $830,000 for the purchase of a new triple combination pumper fire apparatus for the Crawfordsville Fire Department. MacQueen Emergency Group of Whitestown was the sole bidder.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Elaine Chase of Athens Arts Gallery to close the parking lot behind the Marie Canine Plaza from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1.

• Approved a request from Macy Simmons to close Pike Street at Pike Place 2-9 p.m. Sept. 3.

• Approved a request from Paul Barajas to close Green Street from Pike to Main streets 2-11 p.m. Aug. 20 for Groovin’ on Green Street.

• Approved a request from Marc Bonwell to block the parking spaces on Main Street in front of the courthouse on Aug. 16 so that a lift may be placed there.

• Approved an agreement with Price Excavating for the culvert replacement project as part of the Community Crossings Paving program.

• Approved a resolution to transfer the amount of $308,387 for local road and bridge improvement.

• Approved requests from Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis to have a tree removed and the property mowed at 304 Wayne Ave. owned by Roberta Brock; to mow the property at 604 Illinois St. owned by John Hocking and Janet Mason; and to mow the property at 1215 Danville Ave. owned by David and Anna Miller.
