Board OKs plans for 5k

The Board of Public Works and Public Safety approved agenda items on Wednesday, including a 5K fundraiser to support a Crawfordsville Fire Department veteran and road closures for the upcoming Ben Hur building grand opening.

The board approved a request made by Hannah Stadler of the CFD to hold a 5k fundraiser in September to support 19-year CFD veteran Joe Crane. Proceeds from the event will go to Crane, who is currently battling cancer, and his family.

The board also approved a request to close Water Street from Main Street to Pike Street on Friday to prepare for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Ben Hur building. There is expected to be a large crowd and classic cars will be lined up outside of the building.

In other business, the board:

Approved Michael Scheidler’s request to block two to three parking spaces in front of Sugar Creek Eyecare to place a dumpster from July 11-14.

Approved Crawfordsville Street Department’s request to surplus an old metal fuel tank which will be scrapped.

Approved Crawfordsville Street Department’s request to surplus a backhoe and a wheel loader and purchase a new backhoe. The total cost for the new backhoe after trading in the surplussed items and discounts is expected to be $76,578.

Approved an agreement between City and Bonnie Pribush for consulting services related to Leadership Academy. The agreement comes from the academy’s desire to restructure and reorganize after the decline in participants in recent years. The consulting services will cost $1,200.

Approved an agreement between the City and Red Cross for use of the Elmore Street Facility, Red Cross has been using the facility of storage purposes but this establishes a contract detailing the formal agreement of the usage of the facility. The contractual agreement begins February 2026 until February 2029.

Approved Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis’ work order request to mow the property at 1000 E. Market St., owned by GS Investment Property.

Approved a promotion of Crawfordsville Fire Department’s Adam Skelton from Battalion Chief to Division Chief of Code Enforcement.
