Crawfordsville Main Street’s live summer music series kicks off this Friday, and has full support from the city.
On Wednesday, the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request by Sue Lucas, CMS director, to close Pike Street near Pike Place from 2-10 p.m. June 3, Aug. 1 and Sept. 5 for the free summer concerts.
The initial First Friday event opens at 6 p.m. with food service followed by the performance of The Tony Bryant Project, featuring Tonya Lee Martin, at 7 p.m. The group performs classic rhythm and blues and soul.
Concert-goers are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Backstep Brewing will be serving in the beer garden on site.
Lucas reminded the board that CMS contracts with a city police officer for these events to ensure safety.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a request from Backstep Brewing Company to close Green Street to Market Street from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 18 for the Small Town Big Paw Party, a fundraiser for the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.
Gus Moon will open for Steve Trent and Small Town will perform. Music starts at 6 p.m. There is also a motorcycle and Jeep scavenger hunt at 1 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $8 and available at www.eventbrite.com or $10 at the door. The event also feature food vendors.
Event organizers were instructed to work with the city street department for proper signage the day of the event and with the city police and fire department on an event layout.
• Learned the Crawfordsville Police Commissioners extended conditional offers of employment to Brady Clark, Corey Koontz and Jacob Meyer, bring the department to fully staffed.
• Approved a revised right-of-way use/excavation permit application.
• Gave the street department approval to mow a property at 403 E. College St. owned by Dorothy Hockersmith and property at Hamilton Street and Darlington Avenue owned by Burkhart Advertising Inc.
• Heard from Scott Hesler from the street department that paint crews are out on the streets, and he urged motorists to be aware of them and slow down in their presence.
