Board resets hearing on West Market home

Posted

Action on a deteriorated property on the west side of Crawfordsville will have to wait.

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety heard a report Wednesday from city attorney Kent Minnette during a public hearing on the multiple family residence at 1100 W. Market St.

Crawfordsville Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis had issued an unsafe building order on the property.

“This property has been a problem for some time,” Minnette said. “There was talk of rehabbing it by the bank, but the pending foreclosure and rights the owner still has. Last week the foreclosure was granted and title has been transferred completely to the bank.”

Minnette suggested the board reschedule the hearing with the recent change.

“My recommendation is to see where the bank is at a potential sale to someone that will rehabilitate," he said.

The board voted to continue the hearing to Feb. 22.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the standard annual agreement between the city and Montgomery County Leadership Academy with only one change.

• Approved an agreement between the city and INDOT for a Community Crossings Matching Grant for more than $421,000. The funds will be used toward the completion of work on East Wabash Avenue and repave 10 other streets.

• Approved a bid for a Chevy Tahoe for the fire department in the amount of $43,140 from Kelley Chevrolet in Fort Wayne. It was the only of three bids returned.

• Took under advisement three bids on two new trucks for the street department. Bids were returned from Etter Ford, Fletcher Chrysler of Franklin and York Chrysler.

• Approved storm water department purchase of a Leaf Vac for $59,961.
