Montgomery County native and local business owner, Jake Bohlander, is seeking election on the Montgomery County Council.

Bohlander graduated from North Montgomery High School and received his degree in ag economics from Purdue University. Bohlander owns a Pioneer Seed dealership and grain production operation in Montgomery County and is the son of Gary and Ronna Bohlander.

Following graduation from Purdue University in 2015, it was important for Jake to come back home.

“Montgomery County has proven to be an excellent place for Morgan and me to set our roots,” he said. “Born and raised on a small farm north of Darlington, I have always appreciated our community and all it has to offer.”

As a small business owner, Bohlander is committed to county collaboration with the city to ensure that the community continues to thrive.

“Small businesses like our local restaurants, coffee shops, brew pubs, boutiques, retail shops and more make us unique, relevant and an exciting place to visit,” he said. “Our agribusinesses and manufacturing businesses are also paramount to our success. Collectively, all business helps our economy thrive.”

As a young person beginning to think about his own family, Bohlander is intent on keeping the next generation here, in Montgomery County.

“I am excited about all our community has to offer; from the many things such as the outdoor trails, and Sugar Creek, to the unique shopping and events, to the art community and more, there really is something here for everyone,” he said.

Bohlander and wife Morgan, who works at Corteva Agri Sciences, met at Purdue and married in January of 2019. They live in Montgomery County and have two dogs, Bailey and Pete. Jake enjoys hunting and cheering on his alma mater Purdue. He is active in the community as a Montgomery County Soil and Water board member, a member of the Coal Creek chapter of Pheasants Forever, a Purdue University Ag Econ Alumni and Farm House Fraternity Alumni. Additionally, while in college, Bohlander was heavily involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters and Ag Futures of America.

If elected, Bohlander would collaborate with fellow council members, the city of Crawfordsville, and commissioners to promote investment in the community; serving as a checks and balances for county funds to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent in appropriate areas; support the county’s comprehensive plan and encourage controlled growth; and keep the next generation in the community.

Bohlander will have social media and a website available soon so citizens can learn more about his goals and vision.

“At the end of the day, I believe it is important to have a perspective from the next generation serving on the county council, promoting our community as a great place to live, work and raise a family,” he said. “I look forward to serving my community.”
