The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety approved a bid for the renovation of the Frances Wooden Northside Park at Wednesday’s meeting.
The board accepted the lowest bid from Spencer Construction in the amount of $368,000.
The construction company was responsible for the renovation to the Kathy Steele Park on West Main Street. The bid was nearly $70,000 cheaper than the next highest bid.
Financing for the project is coming from an anonymous gift.
Crawfordsville City Police will soon have access to remote language barrier assistance. The board gave the CPD approval to enter into an agreement with Language Line Services Inc. The service allows officers to phone for assistance in translating any foreign language.
Crawfordsville Chief of Police Aaron Mattingly said the price of the service will be $.78 per minute for Spanish and $1.08 per minute for any other language.
“Other places use this service, such as hospitals and communication centers,” Mattingly said. “This will allow my officers to call on the scene to get language assistance so we can respond quickly to whatever the situation is.”
Mattingly said the department will continue to use person-to-person translators in a lot of situations, especially during interrogations.
Solid Waste Management was awarded the bid for the city’s waste disposal. The company was the only company to place a bid for the service.
Street Sanitarian Scott Hesler reported the city’s solid waste site will close today for the year. He also reported that beginning Monday the city will travel around town picking up leaves for the last time this season. He asked residents to have the leaves gathered near the streets by Sunday evening.
The board also approved a request from Roger Bush to have a Dumpster placed at 207 W. Jefferson St. from Friday through Monday.
