BOYS BASKETBALL: Athenians knock off Eagles

Posted

Crawfordsville boys’ basketball churned out a strong defensive performance in a 63-51 win over Heritage Christian on Tuesday night.

The Athenians held the Eagles to just 23 second half points, following an 82-point effort by Heritage Christian in its 82-71 win over Cardinal Ritter last Friday.

“It was a great team defensive effort,” Crawfordsville coach David Pierce said. “We were really pleased to come in at their place and get those kinds of defensive stops.”
Crawfordsville (2-0) held Heritage Christian (1-1) to just 6-of-25 shooting from beyond the arc, and knocked down 7-of-14 shots from deep themselves.

Ty Lynas led all scorers with 23 points to lead the Athenians, while Alex Kellerman knocked down 5-of-6 3-pointers and added 15. Jesse Hall added 11 and Mekhi Wallace 8.

The game was added last minute after Crawfordsville lost two games last week and Heritage Christian’s contest against Park Tudor was canceled.

“Fortunate thing about playing in the summer is those veteran guys are used to coming in and playing a new opponent,” Pierce said. “But we stayed up and did our homework to prepare for them.”

Crawfordsville hosts West Lafayette on Friday night.
