LINDEN - The start of the new basketball season has been rough on North Montgomery. On Saturday the Chargers were defeated by Harrison 90-39. Again, the Chargers fell victim of poor shooting and turnovers resulting in yet another resounding loss.
Harrison (1-1) scored early and often in the opening period. Harrison junior Jonah Lucas scored 10 of his game high 21 points to lead the Raiders to a 24-14 lead after one quarter.
Excessive turnovers against the Raider’s defensive pressure limited the Chargers to only five points in the second quarter. Harrison led at intermission 45-19.
North Montgomery (0-3) had their best offensive quarter of the season after the break. The Chargers scored 16 points but Harrison countered with 18 markers and took a 63-35 lead into the final period.
Once again, North Montgomery’s offense was shut down in the final period when the Chargers were outscored 27-4.
Charger senior Logan Kelly led his team with 16 points and senior Kolton Scrimager added 10.
Harrison had five players score double digits. Besides Lucas, sophomore Ben Henderson scored 16 point and senior Bryan Smith added 14. Senior Peyton Welch finished with 14 points and senior Max Jacobson added 10.
“Tonight we were way overmatched,” Charger coach Chad Arnold said. “Our young players’ heads are spinning. Eventually this will click. Tonight was good competition they very physical, but we are playing hard. That is all I can ask right now.”
Things will not get any easier next weekend for the Chargers. Next Friday North Montgomery will host Crawfordsville and play at Covington Saturday.
