U.S. Rep. Jim Baird and Indiana State Rep. Beau Baird presented 99-year-old Army veteran, John Hall, with the Sagamore of Wabash award and honors of recognition in the Congressional Record on Saturday. Hall served with distinction in both World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was captured as a POW and remained in captivity until General Patton’s army liberated him on April 2, 1945. After his service in World War II, he was recalled for duty during the Korean War, where he was wounded in combat. Hall was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Korea, further demonstrating his unwavering dedication to our country. During the award ceremony, Hall was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and many friends who spoke highly of his bravery and resilience. Dating back to the 1940s, the Sagamore of the Wabash award was created by former Gov. Ralph Gates. It is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
