Bruins blast Athenians 53-0 on senior night

Tri-West continued to assert their SAC dominacne on Friday as they came into Crawfordsville and defeated the host Athenians 53-0 on Friday. From the game’s opening play things went south for the Crawfordsville as a turnvoer on their first offensive play which allowed the high-powered Bruin offense to take the field. From then on it was all Tri-West as Crawfordsville falls to 2-6 (0-6 SAC) on the season.

“Tri-West is a tremendous offense and is a team that’s had a ton of success,” Crawfordsville coach Brad Clark said. “We didn’t get off to the start we wanted with that turnvoer on our first play of the game. We have to find a way to clean up those mistakes especially early in the game that seem to always put us behind the eight ball.

It was senior night for the Athenians as before the game they honored their 16 seniors in Zeke Cardenas, Kaiden Underwood, Javier Resto, Isasc Rogers, Keegan Alsman, Isaac Brackett, Calvin Dittmar, Zach Bowman, AJ Hall, Josh Dixon-Kiger, Xavier Stephenson, Kale Hutchison, Austin Heeke, Brennden Busenbark, Cole Smith, and Eli Holt. It’s been a special group that Clark says he’s honored to coach in his first season at the helm of the Athenian program.

“I wouldn’t want to coach any other group than these guys,” he said. “I’m real lucky to coach these young men and we’ve built some special relationships these last few years. Those relationships go beyond football. Their tremendous young men and I get a front row seat to watch them each and every day.:

Crawfordsville will look to pick up it’s first SAC win of the season next Friday when the Athenians make the ever long and dreaded trip to Frankfort for a battle with the Hot Dogs (1-7, 0-6 SAC).

“There’s a lot of excitement surrounding our team this week with the chance to go to Frankfort and hopefully end our season with a win,” Clark said.

“Then you add on the sectional draw on Sunday night and we get to find out who’ll play in the post-season. I think our guys will come to practice this week. We expect to see a tough Frankfort team. They have a tough passing attack to defend and are capable of putting up points if you’re not fundamentally sound. We know we’ll have to go up there and play well if we want to end the regular season on a high note.
