NEW MARKET — Southmont High School now has a new principal after a three-month search.

Jesse Burgess, a graduate of Wabash College, was approved during Monday’s regularly scheduled public meeting.

Former principal Mike Tricker retired as principal in December last year when he transferred to become director of operations.

Burgess was accompanied by his wife Jenna and their three children — Caleb, 8, Cora, 6 and Knox, 4 — Monday at the Southmont administrative offices.

“I want to thoroughly thank everyone who was involved in the process,” Burgess said after his approval. “It was neat to hear throughout the interviews the concept of family and team and how much it’s valued here. It wasn’t something that was said, you could just sense it from everyone involved.

“My wife and I are extremely excited and we’re very grateful for the opportunity to have our family move here and be a part of this family. We’re looking forward to it.”

Burgess is set to begin his role as principal at the end of the 2019-20 school year.
