Burl Estill Grayson, 84 of Crawfordsville passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Fairway Village in Indianapolis.
He was born June 13, 1940, at Bedford, to the late Cecil Patrick and Alma May (Hawkins) Grayson.
Burl attended Crawfordsville schools and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958-1966. He worked as a carpenter most of his life and managed the masonic cemeteries for several years. He was a licensed commercial pilot, and flying was his favorite hobby.
He was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 72, Masonic Lodge #50, which he was a Past Master for three years, the Scottish Rite and was a 33rd Degree Mason.
He married the love of his life, Carolyn Phillips, on Aug. 25, 1959, who survives. He was the youngest of 12 children and is survived by one sister, Marion Davis of Frankfort; sister-in-law Alice Grayson of Florida; son Kirk Allen Grayson of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Eve (Eric) Hungerford of Crawfordsville, Levi Kirk (Julie) Grayson of Hillsboro and Autumn Rose (Brandon Alonzo) Grayson of Utah; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bert, Roy, John, James and Ed Grayson; and five sisters, Betty Thompson, Connie Price, Ruth Montgomery, Goldy Hensel and Edna Stewart.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care Crawfordsville, 315 S. Washington St., on Friday, Sept. 6 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Mausoleum.
