Carolyn Gilland, 79, of Logansport left this life unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, in Chase Center.

In 1941, on Christmas Day, she was born in Indianapolis, to the late Everett and Josephine (Bannon) Warrick.

Carolyn grew up in the small town of Mellott. After suffering from a severe case of the mumps in fourth grade, Carolyn was completely deaf. She learned sign language and could read lips extremely well. After graduating from Richland High School, Carolyn attended College of the Deaf in Washington, D.C. One of the most poignant things she experienced during that time occurred when the colleges students lined the streets of the Capitol as President Kennedy’s procession entered Arlington National Cemetery.

Carolyn was retired from White-Rodgers/Essex Wire, where she had worked as an assembler. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. During the 80’s, Carolyn was active as a member of the Moose Auxiliary.

Surviving, are: daughter Karen Gilland Leffert (Mike Kinsey), Logansport; son Greg Gilland, Logansport; brother Larry Warrick, Crawfordsville; and her precious grandchildren, Andrew Sullivan, Alexandra Zeising (Garrett), Megan Sullivan (Michael), Gage Costello, Dakota Gilland, and Tanna Hylton; and great-granddaughter Lauren Zeising.

She was preceded in death by daughter Kendra Gilland Wilkinson; a twin sister, who died at birth; as well as another sister and several brothers.

A memorial service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in Fisher Funeral Chapel 1801 Chase Road, Logansport. Friends will be received 4-6 p.m. Oct. 15 prior to the service in the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
