CDPL plans youth summer reading program

Posted

The Youth Services Department at the Crawfordsville District Public Library would like to invite all children up through the age of 18 to register for the summer reading program,

“Reading Round-Up.” Registration begins May 23. You may register at the library or online at www.cdpl.beanstack.org/reader365.

This year children will earn prizes for reading for a specific amount of time. Once they register (at the library) they will be given a reading chart packet. They will read and earn prizes until they have reached the last space on the reading chart where they will receive a book and a T-shirt (for elementary)/a book and a tote bag (for preschoolers). There are four extra challenges the children may do for extra prizes. Those are included in the reading chart packet.

Every day the children may look for Woody from Toy Story in the library and enter a weekly drawing to win a small prize. There will be picture searches up at the library for children to find pictures of Toy Story, western items and wanted book characters.

There will be a new western-themed craft out every Monday. Children may drop in to do those while supplies last. Students who have finished kindergarten through fourth grade can join us on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. for elementary activities (registration is required for this event). All ages may join us on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for story time. On Fridays, at 10 a.m. all ages can join us for activities outside by the pavilion. In case of inclement weather, we will have Wiggle and Giggle (ages up to 5) inside on Fridays.

The teens will also keep track of time spent reading. For every hour read teens will fill out a reading ticket. They may bring in two tickets and choose a prize from the treasure chest and then place those tickets in a bucket for weekly and grand prize drawings.

The program ends July 12. All time for reading must be turned in by 8 p.m. that day.

Visit www.cdpl.lib.in.us to see the events calendar. You can also call us at 765-362-2242, ext. 2, with any questions or to sign-up for a specific activity. You must register for the reading program in person or online, not by phone.

We want to thank the Friends of the Library for funding a good portion of this program.  We can do so much more with their generosity.

We hope to see you this summer (if not before)!
