Capacity limits, other temporary guidelines in place

The Crawfordsville District Public Library is reopening its meeting rooms.

The library board on Thursday gave the green light for resuming community meetings with capacity limits and other temporary guidelines in place, such as prohibiting the serving or consumption of food. The rooms will be open by April 19.

Groups will be limited to 14 people in the Donnelley Room, and crowd sizes will also be restricted in the other meeting rooms and conference room. The catering kitchen will be temporarily closed.

Participants are encouraged but not required to wear masks and must maintain six feet of distance from other participants. Air circulation and displacement guidelines and the sanitizing of rooms between gatherings may restrict the meeting room schedule.

“There were some libraries that have already opened up their meeting room, we’ve been reluctant to because we have so many,” said Theresa Tyner, director of library services.

The reopening of the meeting rooms comes as the library is considering returning to its regular weekday hours after next week, based on current public health advisories.

Library managers will meet to decide whether to shorten the quarantine time for returned materials and reopen the book drop, Tyner said.

In other business, Tyner reported that a new curator is on the job at the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County, which is operated by the library.

Ashley Hannum was hired to replace curator Kat Burkhart, who stepped down to become a senior program manager at Purdue University.

The museum is looking for a new education coordinator following the resignation of coordinator Sadie Blanton.

The board also:

• Approved a bid from Indianapolis-based Indiana Power Services & Supply for generator repairs in the amount of $4,963.94. The cost was lower than the $10,525 bid submitted by Ideal Power Solutions of Lafayette.

• Learned that the library has requested the South Montgomery school board appoint Michelle Helms to a vacant seat on the board.
