The Mary Bishop Memorial Gallery at the Crawfordsville District Public Library invites the public to view a new exhibit.

The “Celebrate Our Creative Community” exhibit is designed to highlight professional and amateur artists and to celebrate the creative side of the free programs offered at the library. This exhibit will be on display through the end of the year during the library’s regular hours of operation. A limited amount of work will be available to purchase through the circulation department.

The gallery staff is excited to celebrate the end of the county’s bicentennial year with an exhibit that brings attention to the wonderful people and places of Montgomery County. The display includes works that were created to celebrate Shades State Park. This section of the exhibit contains oil paintings, photographs, ceramics and more.

Frequent library visitors know about the free in-person and take and make programs. Several projects created by the library staff are showcased in this exhibit. This includes items made in the nature-based programs, hand-sewn items, fun collages, paper crafts and many other interesting things. These items are a reflection of what the community can accomplish as dedicated individuals and as a united team.

The Staff Association of CDPL (SACDPL) also is sharing fun winter-inspired paintings created during a holiday party. The purpose of the SACDPL is to encourage unity among library employees from all departments, to provide a forum of expression concerning work matters, and to provide assistance to co-workers in times of need.

This exhibit also includes a handmade book by local artist T.L. Ridgway. This book was created especially for this community and it is a reflection of her experiences in Montgomery County. It is a one-of-a-kind original poetic story printed on handmade paper. This project was sponsored in part by the Indiana Arts Commission. It will be gifted to the Local History department at CDPL and will be available for one-on-one viewing by appointment beginning early next year.

There is 200 years’ worth of reasons to celebrate Montgomery County. Visit the gallery during your regular visit to CDPL or after you tour the Festival of Trees. Make the arts a part of your holiday tradition and plant a creative seed in the minds of future generations.
