Celebration of Unity set for Saturday

Posted

Local non-profit group Humans United for Equality invites the community to the sixth annual Celebration of Unity. This free event will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Pike Place in downtown Crawfordsville.

This family-friendly event will offer an opportunity for community members to learn more about one another and to celebrate how diverse Montgomery County is. There will be many children’s activities, such as balloon animals, multi-cultural games, crafts, pinatas and bounce houses. Children can learn about the cultures of other people by visiting booths representing Mexico, Poland, Colombia, China and Guatemala. Various local organizations will be present, including the Youth Service Bureau, Cummins Behavioral Health, Carnegie Museum and Recovery Coalition, along with about two dozen other booths.

All games, crafts, entertainment and activities will be free of charge. Complimentary grilled hot dogs will be provided by Hoosier Heartland State Bank. Food will also be available for purchase from Hungree’s, Norvell’s and Jesus Kettle Corn. Enjoy performances by local children from the Dance By Deborah performance dance troupe, Crawfordsville choirs and North Montgomery choirs. Also performing will be the Purdue Baile Folklórico Club and Wabash Mariachi Los Pequeños Gigantes. In the event of inclement weather, the Celebration of Unity will be held at the Montgomery County Boys & Girls Club.

This event has been made possible by HUE members and community volunteers, as well as the following sponsors: City of Crawfordsville, Wabash College, Random House, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies at Wabash College, Nucor, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and First Christian Church.
