Chad Edward Howerton, 48, of Kokomo passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Chad was born in Danville, Illinois, to James Howerton and Jennifer Luton on June 29, 1974. He grew up in Waynetown.

He graduated from North Montgomery High School, where he discovered his love of music (he was a fantastic tuba player!), marching band and color guard. He graduated from Franklin College, with a bachelor’s degree in history. He helped direct marching band and color guard programs in schools all across Indiana, including Sheridan, Marion Adams and Taylor high schools. He worked for Walgreens for 25 years, most of those as store manager. He also served Bona Vista in Kokomo for many years, and was a board member from 2015-2020.

He was also a huge fan of Sci-Fi. He loved Star Wars and Star Trek, comic books and superheroes, mostly Batman. He will be remembered for his “witty” dad jokes, his desire to help others, and his endless love and support for his children.

Chad is survived by father James Howerton; mother Jennifer Green; brother Benjamin (Amber) Howerton; sister Amanda (Tim) McInerney; step-sister Christina (Caleb) Edwards; children, Grant Howerton, Madison Howerton and Truman Howerton; niece Emma Howerton; step-nephews, Jaxon Edwards, Malachi Edwards and Wesley Edwards; and his beloved dog, King.

A public visitation for Chad will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27 at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. The family has requested that all visitors wear their favorite super hero or Star Wars gear, costume, or clothing, in his honor.
