Charger girls soccer falters vs Bison

Posted

LINDEN — It’s been a learning experience for North Montgomery girls soccer this season after graduating such a large and talented senior class from a year ago. Tuesday the Chargers welcome Benton Central to Linden and would fall to the Bison by a final score of 6-2.

The Bison got on the board early with a goal, but ole reliable for the Chargers Teegan Bacon would quickly even up the score at 1-1. At the half Benton Central led 3-1 and made it 4-1 within the first minutes of the second half. Bacon would score the second goal of the game to make it 4-2 with 31 minutes to play as she did her best to keep her team within strking distance. BC added two more late goals as the Chargers would be un-able to mount a comeback.
“We continue to play in a defensive mode and that can’t happen,” Charger coach Julie Hodges said. “We can’t play a full 80 minutes like that because it’ll wear us down quickly. They did get some lucky bounces to go their way but stil when it was 4-2 we felt like we were still in it. But near the end of the game because we were playing that style, we were exhausted and they were able to pop in two more. That’s really been the story of our season of us allowing an early goal, then giving up 2-3 late and it’s all because we’re playing in defensive mode.”

North Montgomery falls to 2-5 on the season and with the halfway point of their season basically here, Hodges knows her team will have to bounce back quickly if they wan’t to avoid spiraling out of control.
“Our massive problem right now is we can’t maintain possession,” she said. “We’re unable to connect passes and until we can start seeing those we’re going to struggle. We’ve worked tirelessly in practice to try and fix it and right now we’re not translating practices into games and the results continue to speak for themselves.”

The Chargers will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they host North Puntam.
