Southmont senior Lexi Nelson used a last second comeback to sneak by North Montgomery’s Drew Webster, while the Chargers’ Kade Kobel flashed his additional varsity letters past Crawfordsville’s Lauren Kellerman in the other semifinal of the Montgomery County’s Best Senior Bracket Challenge.

Thank you all for voting throughout the entire bracket, and make sure to go to Twitter @JR_Sports and vote for the best senior athlete by 5 p.m. on Monday!

Here are some facts about each of the final four runner-ups.

Lauren Kellerman

With a varsity letter in softball this spring, Kellerman would earn her 12th varsity letter. The Crawfordsville senior lettered three years in cross country, before helping the Athenians to their first winning regular season in volleyball since 2015 last fall. She advanced to the cross country semi-state as a sophomore, and was a multi first-team all-conference selection and all-area.

In basketball, Kellerman surpassed the 1,000-point mark with a free throw in the fourth quarter of a loss to West Lafayette in December. She also was the Journal Review 2019 Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year, and is a multi first-team all-conference selection in basketball.

In softball, last year Kellerman had a breakout season as a junior. She hit .583 for the season with 60 hits in 111 chances. She also stole 24 bases and scored 28 runs.

Drew Webster

North Montgomery senior Drew Webster cemented himself into both the football and wrestling history books.

In football Webster was named Co-Journal Review Player of the Year last fall with teammate Kade Kobel. He helped lead the Chargers to their first winning season since 2015 with 62 tackles, 12 for a loss, and four sacks.

In wrestling he climbed his way to fourth all-time in school history with 120 career wins, despite not making the varsity lineup until his sophomore year. Webster finished fifth at 220 pounds in the state as a junior, and followed it with a third-place finish this season. He is the only two-time semi-state winner in North Montgomery history.

Championship Round

Kobel and Nelson now meet in the finals.

Kobel is a 14-time varsity letter winner and would make it 16 this spring with letters in baseball and track and field. Nelson is the two-time Journal Review Player of the Year in volleyball and headed to Urbana University next fall.

Find out more about these two standout seniors in Tuesday’s Journal Review, along with the final results as a champion will be crowned Monday evening.
