Charger SB picks up historic SAC win over Hot Dogs

FRANKFORT -— The old saying is that all streaks whether good or bad will eventually come to and end. This streak for North Montgomery softball will be one that they are glad is now in the rear view mirror. Coming into Tuesday nights Sagamore Conference matchup at Frankfort, the Chargers had not won a SAC contest since 2015 when they defeated county rival Crawfordsville. That streak is now over as North Montgomery picked up a massive 8-5 win over the Hot Dogs.

What has been an issue for the Chargers all season has been a cluster of errors, but the defense was solid all night long behind starting pitcher Piper Ramey and committed just a single miscue in the victory.

“I told the girls afterwards that this is the foundation that we wanted start build when we got going in January,” North Montgomery coach Rob Earley said. “We’ve laid the first brick and we’re on way and moving in the right direction. This was just an overall great team win. We worked on a lot of defensive drills last night in practice and we stressed that if we make the play that we should, that great things can happen.”

The Chargers on the other hand took advantage of four Frankfort errors and also tallied nine hits in the win. Piper Ramey went a perfect 3-3 at the plate and scored three runs while also striking out 10 on the mound. Cascie Keller also picked up a pair of hits and scored two runs while driving in one of her own.

“This is just an overall confidence builder for us,” Earley added. “Confidence is definitely contagious and can lead to achieving a lot of great things. I told the girls though that they can enjoy this one tonight but once tomorrow rolls around, we have to look to build off of this and have a re-peat performance.”

North Montgomery with their historic Sagamore Conference win improves to 2-8 (1-5 SAC) and will go for the sweep of the Hot Dogs tomorrow night at home. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30.
