Chargers blank Mustangs

VEEDERSBURG — North Montgomery’s baseball team was clicking on all cylinders Thursday at Fountain Central. The Charger defeated the Mustangs 18-0 in five innings.

North Montgomery junior pitcher Crew Cole handcuffed the Mustangs by allowing only four hits. The righty recorded four strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Two of the Mustang hits came in the first inning but the Chargers shut the door with a double play to stop the threat.

“Crew was very poised,” Charger coach Matt Voorhees said. “In the opening inning he was leaving his pitches up a bit. Crew made the necessary adjustments, started working down, and was extremely successful.”

The Charger bats were active all game totaling 18 hits. Leading the way for the Chargers were Aiden Ambriz-Cruz and Cole with three hits apiece. Cole had five RBI.

Charger junior Tucker Hinds recorded three RBI on two hits. Keaton Brown had three hits and two RBI.

Ambriz-Cruz and senior Nolyn Brown each scored four runs.

The Mustangs, who committed six errors, were struggling with pitching after having two WRC games earlier in the week. Fountain Central issued only three walks however but recorded no strikeouts.

The Chargers are now 2-0 on the new season. Voorhees said the chemistry on the team is starting to show as a strength. Voorhees played all 15 players who made the trip to Fountain Central.

“It has been awesome to see the camaraderie that these guys have,” Voorhees said. “You can coach skills, strategies and even some life lessons, but chemistry and care for on another comes from the players. We as a staff are just blessed to be a part of their team.”

North Montgomery (2-0) traveled to Seeger on Friday and will host Cascade (1-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday. Fountain Central (0-3)  will play at Crawfordsville (0-3-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
