North Montgomery and Fountain Central fans have a rare opportunity to see every winter athletic team from their school on Tuesday. The Chargers and Mustangs will compete against each other in varsity and junior varsity boys, basketball and girls basketball. Also the two wrestling teams will battle along with the swim and dive teams all at North Montgomery.
The other Charger winter sports team, gymnastics, does not begin competition until January.
The idea for a sports spectacular night was the brain storm of the two athletic directors. Matt Merica of North Montgomery and Jason Good of Fountain Central first started talking about having all teams play at one site before Thanksgiving five years ago. The scheduling has changed at both schools to make the evening possible.
“Once we saw we could do this, both Jason and I started moving our schedules around,” Merica said. “We had to rearrange schedules and luckily the other schools we had been playing in those sports agreed.”
Both athletic directors hope fans will come and walk around to watch all the events throughout the evening. Another added bonus is one ticket will allow fans to see all six events.
“We will have our normal ticket tables set up inside the south and west doors,” Merica said. “Fans will be able to go to any of the events for one ticket.”
Admission to the sports spectacular can be purchased online at http://gofan.co/app/school/IN1689/.
Tickets can also be purchased at the door with a card only. No cash will be accepted.
