Charles Duane Shumaker, 91, of rural Veedersburg passed away at his residence at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Duane was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, Indiana, the son of Grant and Ruby (Orahood) Shumaker. He married Nancy Tornquist on May 10, 1957, at Veedersburg.
Surviving family include: his wife Nancy Shumaker, Veedersburg; four sons, Dan (Cathy) Shumaker, Lafayette, Kelvin (Anna) Shumaker, Olathe, Kansas, Tim (Kathryn) Shumaker, Veedersburg, and Kenneth (Valli) Shumaker, Covington; daughter Lucinda (Dan) Sichting, Brookston, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, Doug (Megan) Shumaker, Angela (John) Sliger, Bethaney (Cody) Burlew, Jessica Shumaker, Mackenzie (Brayden) Alward, Gabrielle Shumaker, Aidan Shumaker, Peyt Shumaker, Kendall Shumaker, Ellen (Chad) Sichting and Danielle Sichting; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Burlew, Jaxon Sliger, Mackenna Shumaker, Declan Shumaker and Hadley Alward; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by daughter Sue Ellen Shumaker; three sisters, Kathleen Allen, Phyllis Rayphole and Virginia Dark; and two brothers, Robert Shumaker and Dean Shumaker.
Duane graduated from Perrysville High School in 1954. He was employed at Marshall Studios for 10 years, and was employed at Tee-Pak in Danville, Illinois for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1997. His greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Coopers Chapel Cemetery, State Road 32, Covington, with Pastor Ryan Sowers officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial contributions be given to St Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Children Hospital.
