Charles Philpott, 94, of Crawfordsville and formerly of Parke County, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette.

Born April 17, 1926, in Parke County, the son of Earl and Irene Paddock Philpott. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Philpott. He married Laura Ellen Shaffer on March 31, 1946. She passed away Oct. 25, 1987. He married Mary (Schwab) Good on Sept. 18, 1988. She survives.

He attended the Marshall Federated Church for several years prior to attending the Whitesville Christian Church; was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, belonging to Kingman Lodge #314 F&AM; and was a member of the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years.

Charles worked in and around Marshall his whole life. He owned a farm, a grocery store in Marshall, worked at a feed store, Kraft cheese plant and worked for W.R. Grace Co. as a fertilizer dealer and district salesman. He retired in 1986. Starting in 1988 he spent most of his time at Cherokee Trading Post running/helping with the campground and the animal barn/petting zoo. He was a man who always kept busy.

He is survived by wife Mary of Crawfordsville; three children, Sue Ann Philpott of Tucson, Arizona, Vicki (Scott) Ballentine of Jamestown and David (Deanna) Philpott of Waveland; four grandchildren, Jacob (Kristie) Ballentine of Lebanon, Chuck (Abby) Ballentine of Fowler, Shelby (Brian) Hopkins of Crawfordsville and Cody Philpott of Chicago; and six great-grandsons. Also surviving are step-children, Donna (Steve) Surface of Crawfordsville and Rhonda (Bob ) Feuer of Lafayette; three step-grandchildren, Melissa (Anthony) Alsman of Crawfordsville, Steffanie (Joel) Housman of Warrenton, Virginia, and Kayla (Josh) Brant of Boswell; and five step-great-grandchildren. He was a true family man, who loved them all.

Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 E. High St., Rockville. Masonic services will be at 3 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at the funeral home. Pastor Mike Whitaker will be officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery near Marshall.
