Check out E-content at CDPL

Posted

You’re probably familiar with the wonderful collection of books, DVDs, magazines and CDs here in our library, but you may not know that your library card grants access to a whole world of online resources as well. You can find classes on a variety of subjects from watercolors to spreadsheets under the E-content tab on our website, www.cdpl.lib.in.us. Everything is free when you sign in using your library card, and you can access it at any time at home or on our public computers here at the library.

Also under E-content are our ebook platforms, Libby and Hoopla. Many people prefer physical books, but ebooks have a few advantages. With everything on your smartphone, tablet, or computer, you can check out materials at any time, and easily carry all those heavy books in your pocket. Your books are automatically returned, so they’re never overdue. In addition, you can change the size and color of the display which makes the text easier to read. Ebooks may seem intimidating to the uninitiated but never fear — the platforms are very intuitive and if you have any questions they come with helpful guides. We also have information on getting started with Libby and Hoopla on our E-content page, and you are welcome to come to the Reference desk on the second floor if you need any extra help.

Libby offers a wide range of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. Libby is a replacement for the OverDrive app, which is being phased out this spring and will no longer be updated. The OverDrive website has instructions on switching to Libby; and if you stop by the Reference desk on the second floor, we are happy to guide you through the installation process.

CDPL also offers a second platform called Hoopla. Hoopla has graphic novels, movies, television shows and music in addition to the usual ebooks and audiobooks. Patrons can check out a total of five titles per month from any material type available on Hoopla. Between our physical collection, our programs, Hoopla, Libby and many other digital resources, you have a wonderful educational and entertainment collection at your hands — even when the library is closed.
