Kimberly and Ryan Brooks have commenced their second Christmas Corner, an initiative that will help provide Christmas presents and necessities for children in Montgomery County this holiday season.
The Brooks came up with Christmas Corner and initiated it for the first time last Christmas at C.R. 450S and C.R. 275W. The project asks for donations in a creative way, allowing people to buy a tree to decorate on the Brooks’ property. Each tree costs $100 and all proceeds go to a child in need.
Last year, they were able to provide gifts to 22 children in the community, raising around $4,800. This year, Kimberly Brooks hopes to surpass those numbers.
“I mean if we could get 30 kids, I mean that’s eight more than we got last year, that would be great,” Brooks said.
She said $5,000 would be a realistic goal for this year.
The fundraiser allows for the Brooks to not only purchase toys for children in the community, but also winter coats, clothes and shoes.
The Brooks said that anyone can reach out to ask to enter their children.
“We basically get on Facebook and we look for, or ask anybody, in Montgomery County only, that knows of someone or is in need of help for Christmas,” Kimberly Brooks said. “Then we just have them either come out and meet with us one night when Santa’s here so the kids are kind of distracted or we just phone call.”
During the fundraiser the Brooks will also be hosting Santa Claus for several nights throughout December. The first visit was on Dec. 3, the upcoming dates are 5-7 p.m. Dec. 11; 1-3 p.m. Dec. 15; 6-8 p.m. Dec. 20; and 4:30-6:30p.m. Dec. 21.
The Brooks are also accepting monetary donations. Reach out to Kimberly Brooks for more information at 318-773-1299.
