Christmas parade route approved

The route is set for Crawfordsville-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Parade, which returns after a one-year absence due to the pandemic.

The parade steps off at 2 p.m. Dec. 5. This year’s theme is “Polar Express,” based on the children’s book and the 2004 animated film starring Tom Hanks.

Floats will proceed on the traditional route along East Main Street, turn south on Washington Street, head east on Pike Street and disband once crossing Green Street.

Crawfordsville’s Board of Public Works and Safety signed off on the route and related street closures on Wednesday.

In other business, the street department will start running leaf pickup routes on Monday, commissioner Scott Hesler told the board. One leaf vacuum has already been deployed.

“We’ll make several routes until it’s done or the snow flies, one of the two,” Hesler said.

The board also:

• Approved the promotion of Crawfordsville Fire Capt. Adam Skelton to battalion chief. Skelton, an 18-year department veteran, replaces Scott Surber, who recently retired.

• Approved a request from Doug Sims to place a Dumpster at 112 E. Jefferson Street through Monday.

• Approved a request by VFW Commander Gary Bell to block Green Street from Main to Market streets from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 11 for the annual Veterans Day ceremony.
