Crawfordsville girls’ track and field team won the Sagamore Conference Track and Field on Saturday at Southmont.
Team depth made the difference for the Athenians. Crawfordsville had six champions and scored in all 16 events. A total of 19 team members scored points in the meet.
Crawfordsville girls earning championships were Aubrey Lowe 100 M. Hurdles (16.95), Guinevere Schmitzer-Torbert 300 M. Hurdles (48.56), Riley Gardner High Jump (5’02”) and Long Jump Na’arah Byard (16’ 4.5”).
The Athenians also won two relays. Lilly Hummell, Ally Strickland, Bea Swick and Byard won the 4x100 Relay (50.85) and Caroline Melevage, Ally Johnson, Alea Seward and Schmitzer-Torbert won the 4x400 Relay (4:09).
Athenian coach Amanda Elizondo was excited to see her team dominate the girls meet.
“We could not be more proud of our girls for pulling away with the conference championship by 54.5 points,” Elizondo said. “Winning conference has been a goal of ours all year and we couldn’t be happier with how we competed. This is a great group of girls. They bought into the game plan of ‘getting a point’ for the team, whether that meant winning first place or chasing down a runner to get the last scored point in eigth place. It was truly a total team effort.”
North Montgomery girls finished in third place. The Charger used their depth to score points in several events.
The lone Charger champion was Alyssa Mantesta in Shot Put (31’08”).
Charger Ella McManomy accounted for two individual second place finishes in the 400 M., Long Jump and as a member of the 4x400 Relay team. Other relay members were Mady Holt, Gracie Ratcliff and Sophia Powell.
