City renews subscription for tree inventory tool

Posted

After a year-long trial period, the City of Crawfordsville will continue using software to maintain the city’s tree inventory.

TreeKeeper, an inventory management tool from environmental consulting company Davey Resource Group, gives the city the ability to track the planting and removal of trees in public spaces. The software also includes a ratings system identifying which trees need to come down first.

The Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday approved a three-year subscription in the amount of $6,250 for the software. The trial period was included as part of a tree inventory and urban forestry management plan Davey completed in 2019.

The board also approved a new agreement between the city and ambulance billing auditor MALCON.

“There’s always a discrepancy between what we’ve been paid by Medicaid and what we’re owed by Medicaid,” Mayor Todd Barton said.

Under the latest agreement, MALCON and the city will equally split the recovered costs up to $23,750. The city receives all recovered costs beyond that.

About $71,000 was recovered in 2018, according to the latest audit.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted a $17,120 quote from W Enterprises of Crawfordsville to demolish the buildings at the former Toney Petroleum site at 508 John St. The company submitted the lone bid for the project.

• Approved requests to close Pike Street at Pike Place for events. Wabash College’s Democracy and Public Discourse Initiative will hold a community conversation about diversity and inclusion from 2 to 4 p.m. April 18.

Characters Counts! is hosting its Champions of Character breakfast May 27. Montgomery County Farm Bureau will have its annual meeting and customer appreciation event Aug. 10.
