The city will award the first phase of the East Wabash Avenue paving project to a contractor next week.

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety opened bids Wednesday for the latest round of road paving work funded by the state’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program.

The first section of West Wabash will be paved from Mill Street to the railroad tracks near California Pellet Mill Co.  A $396,938 bid was received from Indianapolis-based DC Construction for that segment of the project. Lafayette-based Milestone Contractors submitted a bid for more than $485,741.

Other streets slated for paving this year are Grant Avenue from Chestnut Street to Wabash Avenue, Sloan Street from Meadow Avenue to the dead end, Vandalia and Ray streets from Mill Street to Southgate Drive and Chestnut Street from Mill Street to Wallace Avenue.

DC’s total bid package rang in at more than $622,031. Milestone’s total bid was $823,950. The city will review both bids before a contract is awarded at the next board of public works and safety meeting.

In other business, the board:

• Renewed a contract with Crawfordsville Farmers’ Market manager Lisa Lynch for $14 per hour.

• Approved an agreement with New World Collections to serve as the debt collection agency for ambulance billing.

• Granted a $1,075 contract with Ashlyn Burns to collect data analysis for the city’s Mobile Integrated Health program.
